What is WORD?

Women's Opportunity & Resource Development, Inc. (WORD) creates opportunities, programs and policies that inspire and support women’s development, leadership and choice, for the benefit of our entire community. We are feminists who offer women the resources they need to transform their lives and communities and, in so doing, fulfill their potential. We are proud to be nationally recognized for our evolving work that is designed to stay on the leading edge of issues related to women, children and families in Missoula, Montana and the surrounding region.

Through our six programs we offer support, education and training to empower women and their families to move from a place of need to a place of independence, participation and choice. Our programs promote women’s access to stable housing, adequate income, personal/career development, family/school involvement and the creation of policies for social change.

We were founded in 1986. The needs of women and families in our community have changed in the past twenty years, but they have not lessened. Our work continues with the same passion that drove our founding mothers to create this organization.

Won’t you join us in making the future better for all women in our community?

WORD's Board of Directors meets every fourth Friday at WORD.
These meetings are open to the public. For more information, call 543-3550.
